SAKHIR – New teams activities got a major spotlight in the practice session at the Bahrain Grand Prix Sakhir yesterday (12 / 3). Still far behind in terms of speed by the ‘old’ team, they were fun to compete alone. HRT-Cosworth team (Hispania) received extra attention because yesterday was the first day of their car actually drove on the track.

In the first sries in this 2010 season of Formula 1, pursuit of new teams are much feared. The trial results showed that the Lotus-Cosworth and Virgin-Cosworth is still far behind in terms of speed.

Yesterday, after 2nd practice session (two sessions, each 90 minutes), Lotus may smile most broadly. Couple Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli was the fastest driver of the new team, each recorded time in the range of 2 minutes and 0.9 seconds. About one second faster than Virgin couples, Lucas di Grassi and Timo Glock.

Only, record the time they are still far from the old teams. Exactly about two to three seconds slower than the middle of the board, about five seconds from the fastest. Yesterday Nico Rosberg recorded the best time for the Mercedes Grand Prix, which is 1 minute and 55.409 seconds.

Lotus and Virgin did not go through training without any problems. Because of constraints cars, Glock is only makes three laps in the second session. From Lotus faction rather intriguing story. Kovalainen had to go back to the garage suddenly because he got hot at his ass. Apparently, protection around the cockpit is not maximized, especially in such hot tracks like Bahrain (air temperature around 32 degrees Celsius).

So far, the teams always try out in Spain, where the temperature in the range of teens and 20’s degrees Celsius.

However, what is experienced by Lotus and Virgin is nothing when compared with HRT-Cosworth. Because of financial constraints, the team (formerly called Campos) simply could not undergo the test. Yesterday was the first time HRT cars drove on the track.

In the first session, Bruno Senna (Brazil) only doing three laps installation, no record time at all (out from the pit, at the end of lap straight into the pit again) lol.
